Creating Value from Practically Nothing

Successful entrepreneurs try to create something of value from practically nothing.

  1. They sense opportunities,
  2. marshall resources,
  3. take calculated risks
  4. and push ideas through to reality.

Typically driven by a commitment to a common vision and bold goals, they reward results and have little tolerance for those who worship process and effort. This they try to do in small startups or by initiating a new and different means of generating value in the organisation.

Not only do entrepreneurs create jobs for others, they create significant wealth for themselves. Independence, adventure, fun and the opportunity to implement new ideas draw them to do what they do. In addition, entrepreneurs are drawn to change. Entrepreneurs see disruptions as opening doors to new competitive opportunities.

Seeing opportunity where others see threat requires moving beyond common wisdom and thinking creatively. Be bold enough to break the mold and find out for yourself.

  1. Hi Mike

I love the constant disruption that provides the opportunity that the entrepreneur seeks. Its like a roller coaster ride- if you hold on white knukled and eyes shut you'll miss everything. The trick is to keep the eyes open remain calm and spot the disruption!

  2. Ken that is such a great analogy – I love it!

I often speak of the 'entrepreneurial gaze' that some people have where they see opportunities where others see problems, disruptions, delays and inconveniences. It's as if you're viewing the world through a set of Entrepreneurial Coloured Glasses ;)
